In the heart of the Grisons canton, in the splendid setting of Flond, our Bergamo Restauri Group team recently completed a significant exterior renovation project. The project successfully combined the solidity required by the Alpine territory with the aesthetic refinement of Italian design, transforming a critical area into a true asset for the home.
Working in Flond allowed us to engage with a landscape where nature is the protagonist. Our goal was ambitious: to create natural stone outdoor solutions that were not only functional and weather-resistant but also harmoniously integrated into the Swiss architectural context.
From earth to design: stabilizing the sloping area
The most complex challenge of this construction site concerned the management of a sloping outdoor area. Originally, this area was an unstable and barely usable dirt slope, subject to landslides and erosion during heavy rains or snowfall.
Our ground stabilization intervention began with the reclamation and shaping of the gradient. We transformed uncultivated land into a safe and livable architectural structure, using aesthetic engineering techniques to create terraces and paths that follow the natural lines of the landscape, ensuring maximum soil stability.
The beduina stone walkway: the charm of the palladian style
To crown the stabilization work, we created a new perimeter walkway. For this outdoor paving, Bedonia stone was chosen—a material of excellence famous for its natural luster, natural non-slip properties, and extraordinary mechanical resistance.
For the installation, we opted for the palladian style (opus incertum). This technique requires great craftsmanship: each slab is manually selected, shaped, and placed to create a unique natural mosaic. The result is a vibrant surface that gives the house a distinctive character.
- Weather resistance: an ideal material to withstand the harsh climatic cycles of Flond.
- Natural aesthetics: the chromatic variety of the beduina stone enhances the surrounding greenery and Alpine light.
- Certified craftsmanship: each fragment is laid with millimeter precision to ensure flatness and safety for walking.
Monolithic stairs: solidity becomes sculpture
To connect the various levels of the garden and eliminate the problem of the dirt slope, we installed spectacular monolithic stairs.
Unlike traditional stairs, the monolith offers a visual impact of extreme compactness and modernity. These unique stone blocks, carefully finished, convey a sense of stability and discreet luxury. They are elements that “furnish” the outdoor space, becoming true functional sculptures capable of defying time and frost without undergoing structural alterations.
