From the Bergamo Alps to the French Riviera, the gap is narrow when it comes to craftsmanship and attention to detail. Bergamo Restauri is proud to present one of its latest international prestige projects: the conservative restoration and deep cleaning of the exterior surfaces of a stunning villa located in the exclusive heart of Saint Tropez.
The intervention focused on a material as fascinating as it is demanding: Vicenza stone.
Stone facade maintenance: the challenge against salt spray and time
Vicenza stone is a calcareous material celebrated for its brightness and its history, inextricably linked to the works of Palladio. However, constant exposure to marine atmospheric agents — salt spray, wind, and sharp temperature fluctuations — combined with the natural passage of time, had compromised its original luster, creating worn areas and consistent deposits on the facades.
Our goal was not simply to “clean,” but to perform a philological recovery to restore the soul of the stone, respecting its porosity and historical patina.
Technical protocol: cleaning and restoring Vicenza stone
For this site in Saint Tropez, we adopted a scientific and strictly conservative approach, divided into two key phases to ensure maximum durability.
1. Cleaning with non-aggressive alkaline detergents
We avoided invasive mechanical treatments or sandblasting that could have damaged the “living” surface of the material. The choice fell on the use of controlled-formula alkaline detergents. These specific restoration products allow for:
- Effective removal of atmospheric dirt and organic residues.
- Respect for the mineral and chemical integrity of the Vicenza stone.
- Minimal environmental impact, essential in a protected naturalistic context.
2. Powder grouting for the recovery of worn areas
In areas where atmospheric agents had hollowed out or eroded the surface, we intervened with the powder groutingtechnique. Using selected aggregates and original Vicenza stone powder mixed with compatible binders, we reconstructed the missing or degraded parts.
This micro-construction surgery process allows for perfect chromatic and material integration: once dry, the repair becomes invisible, restoring visual continuity to the facade and protecting it from future infiltration.
Final result: italian excellence in international restoration
The result is a villa that once again radiates that golden warmth typical of noble stone, perfectly integrated into the Mediterranean landscape of Saint Tropez.
With this specialized cleaning and maintenance intervention, Bergamo Restauri confirms its ability to export Italian “know-how” abroad, bringing the precision and dedication of our craftsmen to the most prestigious architectural contexts in Europe.
